When Donald Trump first won presidency the stock market went up and there was a lot of economic optimism. After this first week in which Trump has signed an executive order banning people from 7 countries from coming in to the United States, many are afraid that he is slowly cutting off the United States from the rest of the world.
Isolationism in the United States would be bad for most businesses and CEO's of many companies like Netflix, Google, and Ford denounced the executive order. Wall Street also showed its disapproval, as on Monday, the stock market was the worst it had been since the election.
1. What do you think should be the next move, either from Trump or from the people?
2. Do you think that the ban was a good idea on Trump's part?
3. How do you think this will continue to impact the American economy?
I think that throughout this presidency that isolationism and anything walling America off from the rest of the world will be harmful to both the American and possibly even the world economy.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the isolationism set by Trump will result in a downfall in the US economy. As stated by the article, cutting off some foreign relations will punish several large cooperation that contribute a lot to our economy.
ReplyDeleteI think if Trump keeps isolating the United States there will be a lot more of an economic shift. However, it is not unusual for the economy to drop after new legislation is signed, so I don't think we should be really alarmed right now. I don't think this ban was a good idea on Trump's part because a lot of the oil we get is from the middle east, and the bans were primarily on middle eastern countries so that will probably affect America.
ReplyDeleteIt's been less than 2 weeks since Trump has been president, yet the people keep protesting and going against what he has done and said. I fear that if the people make the next move, they'll just be more and more protests. But if Trump does, I'm worried that he'll just make things worse. I definitely don't think his executive order was good idea, especially because the stock market is at its lowest.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump is going to start making bad decisions which will lead people to become anger. I don't think it was a good I idea because I don't see any good reason for the banding. I think our economy will get worse with Trump as our president.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump's next move is to lift the ban. The ban was a bad idea and reflects badly on our country. Countries and companies will continue to disapprove of the potus and his policies and this will result in issues.

ReplyDeleteI feel Trump should not enforce a policy of isolationism and revoke the ban that keeps out the 7 countries. I feel if he continues on his path to cut off certain people from the US, the economy will not be able to prosper and multinational companies will not be able to function.

ReplyDeleteIsolationism will decline the economy rather than boost it. A possible consequence could be more enemies for the U.S. because other countries would be upset. They would be losing businesses they had with this country that would bring them benefits.

ReplyDeleteI think that the bad is just him carrying through with his campaign promises of the "temporary ban on Muslims" as he called it. Well for Trump he doesn't really have to do anything because he is the President of the country, but the people will just continue to protest and riot etc. I think that it might cause a temporary stagger to the economy but it shouldn't last more than 68 hours.

ReplyDeleteSeeing that the American economy is so beneficial and extensive, it would be a mistake to cut off everyone else. The american economy thrives off of talents from around the world and needs cheap labor from developing countries. The opportunity costs would be too much and isolation would only make countries such as China stronger.
ReplyDeleteI believe an isolationist belief would be detrimental to the United States economy. The American economy benefits from imports and exports, and cutting off ties to foreign countries would result in harmful economic effects to the major businesses that rely on these foreign interactions, thus damaging the US economy. The executive order is not a good decision, and Trump cut off ties with the Middle East where the US relies on oil imports.
ReplyDeleteI think that cutting America off from other countries is a terrible social and economic choice. The "banned" countries are already voicing complaints and suggesting maybe banning Americans from their land. I'm afraid for the economy and the country.

Meanwhile Trump is president he will make the economy decrease a lot. I do not think that Trump will make a difference I believe it is on the people to try and do anything that is on their hands.

With illegals and as well as refugees we do not need crime increasing in America with the threat that they bring. We are expected to welcome everyone but how can we know if that one person is not secretly a menace to society. Illegals take up jobs that increase the unemployment rates for Americans who deserve the right to work. Hurting business is better than hurting Americans with the certain threat. ReplyDeleteIt goes without saying that cutting off ties with other countries would have a negative effect on international business ties. Foreign relations is an extremely important part of a successful international policy regarding economics, immigration policies aside
ReplyDeleteI don't think isolationism is the answer to solving anything, however if Trump continues to do so, then the people will just protest more. This will also hurt the country economically because businesses will not be able to advance.

I also think this will create more tension within our divided nation. He should be looking for ways to unite this divided nation instead of dividing it even more.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe people should keep protesting like what Elizabeth said because as you may have noticed, "protesters" are causing more harm than good. Like at the Milo Protest at UC Berkeley, several people got pepper sprayed for supporting Trump and Milo. Basically, some liberals are making the free speech thing only be okay if you are against Trump.

This is only isolating the U.S. and it could lead to economic issues and tensions. I think it is the best decision to raise the ban.

If we were in Isis with no protection from our military, we would be killed with no hesitation and be made an example of. If these countries would not welcome us into their land, then why do they expect us to?
