We have heard time and time again how the republicans hate Obamacare and how they want to repeal it and create an entirely new system. And like most things Trump has said he would do, for better or for worse, he plans to take action. Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act, was signed into law in 2010 and extended health coverage to 20 million Americans. It expanded Medicaid to Americans below or just above to poverty line and offered middle-income Americans to buy insurance based on income-based tax credits. Obamacare was seen as a re-distributive law which transferred money from the rich to the poor and was an attempt balance the so severely skewed wealth distribution in the United States. The outline of the new plan to repeal and replace Obamacare would substantially cut funding for the states that provide free insurance to low-income Americans and would change how tax credits are distributed by giving all Americans not covered through work a flat credit based on age(instead of income). The New York time states that the plan has additional features that would result in redistributing resources from the poor to the rich and says it would, “allow Americans to sock more money away for health spending in special tax-free health saving accounts”. But what the plan doesn’t do is change any of the Obamacare regulations that are said to drive up the cost. Changing these rules and regulations could makes insurance cheaper, but would require separate legislation. Although this is just a draft and things are still subject to change. Sorry to all the people who relied so heavily on the Affordable Care Act, we will watch and see what Trump does next.
1. Do you think we should repeal, keep, or change Obamacare?
2. What do you think this new plan will do the the economy?
3. What do you think will happen to the people who rely on Obamacare?

i think we should keep Obamacare because it only benefits us. It will bead for our economy because it will take away healthcare, and increase our taxes which would equal in the economy going bad. They will have to find new plans, which cost money, and the people who can't afford the healthcare will have no healthcare.
ReplyDeleteI think Obamacare should be abolished for one certain fact. Yes, healthcare is affordable due to Obamacare but the quality of Healthcare differs for one who pays more. For the fact that is is affordable but not equal in quality means that it is unfair. Therefore, abolishing the act would be the only solution
ReplyDeleteI agree with Siua, Obama care has done more harm to our nation than help it. If we want an affordable health care we can rely on surely President Trump will discover an alternative to Obama care.
ReplyDeleteI think that although the ACA is flawed, this alternative isn't good enough to replace it. It seems like they are more focused on the abolition than the replacement. The fact is that Republicans have been floating this around for a long time, being very vague in terms of what will actually be in the new plan.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that Trump's plan would be the best for this. However, the ACA is definitely really flawed, and I believe that we should keep it around. We need to take the steps in order to actually make it better.
ReplyDeleteI think that Obamacare needs editing, many Americans do feel like their tax dollars are going towards a useless cause. I'm afraid for those who rely on Obamacare, with all of its flaws, Obamacare still provided healthcare for those who truly needed it.
ReplyDeleteI think Obamacare needs to be changed because those who do have Obamacare don't have much coverage because no many hospitals/ healthcare places take Obamacare, but I do believe that it is necessary for Americans to have universal healthcare. I think if we want to have universal healthcare though, everyone needs to get on board and support it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Siua and Luke. Obamacare has the right intentions to provide healthcare to all americans. However, it has its flaws. The quality of care is different for each person, meaning Obamacare supports inequality. In addition, it has been extremely detrimental to middle class citizens who do not have the money to pay for almost all of their medical bills, yet are forced to because of the taxes and limits to their health care.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the people above. I think Obamacare is a great concept, but it needs to be changed a bit. I think if we make it better, it has the potential to be something really great, helpful, and effective.
ReplyDeleteObama care should not be repealed is has been very successful providing many people with healthcare. Although it can be improved but it shouldn't be repealed
ReplyDeleteWe should keep Obamacare but we should make a few changes to it. The people who rely on Obamacare wont be able to pay for it now and will make it harder for them.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should not abolish Obamacare but that we should just make improvements to the system to make it better but replacing it completely with a new plan is not the answer. It has helped many and i think that it should stay in order to help more people.

ReplyDeleteI think Obamacare was a good idea, but it might not have been executed correctly. Like anything, Obamacare has its flaws, but I think if those flaws were corrected, it could benefit a lot of Americans and provide more coverage.
ReplyDeleteEmily wrote some fire a few comments up. The US should figure out a more efficent unviersal health care, but obamacare should be altered. Not taken away.

ReplyDeleteIs it obvious that Obamacare needs to be changed. A lot of Americans feel like their tax dollars are being spent on something that is not as useful as their tax dollars should be spent on. Obamacare does not seem to be accepted in a lot of hospitals, which immediately rules the consumer out for that specific insurance plan
