U.S. drops "mother of all bombs"

The US has dropped the largest non-nuclear bomb ever used in battle in Afghanistan earlier this week. New data concluded that 94 ISIS militants have been pronounced dead since the dropping. Fortunately, there has been no reports on civilians being injured or dead from the attack. The strike using the Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb was executed Thursday against an Islamic State group tunnel complex carved into the mountains that Afghan forces had tried to assault repeatedly in recent weeks in fierce fighting in Nangarhar province. Mostly concentrated in Nangarhar, there are about 700 ISIS fighters still left in Afghanistan. Not only has the U.S. been aiding Afghanistan against their fight against ISIS, but also with the Taliban. "The United States takes the fight against ISIS very seriously and in order to defeat the group we must deny them operational space, which we did," White House press secretary Sean Spicer said later Thursday. The strike "targeted a system of tunnels and cave that ISIS fighters use to move around freely." Not everyone is applauding Trump on his decision, however. "We are escalating in an area I think we should be deescalating in," Jackie Speier told CNN'. "Coupled with what happened in Yemen, what happened in Syria, these are efforts that are made to suggest that we will be engaging in wars in three different countries simultaneously."

Do you agree that the best way to fight ISIS is by damaging their underground cave system?
Do you agree with Speier that the U.S. is taking on too much which could lead to multiple wars and could be overwhelming to the U.S.?

Was dropping the large non-nuclear bomb a smart decision or should the US have taken a different approach?

  1. I think the best way to fight ISIS is by damaging their underground cave system, because that is where they plan out their every attack. Yes, because starting multiple wars would be too overwhelming for the US government to handle alone. I think the US should of tried a diplomatic way before dropping a bomb.

  2. I also do believe that the best way to fight ISIS is by damaging their cave system because its going to be more difficult to plan.

  3. I think that this is a good idea.

  4. I think that damaging their underground system was a smart move, but I just don't agree with the way that they did so with the bomb, even though it was non-nuclear. I also agree with Speier that the US did take on too much because it could possibly spark multiple wars with multiple countries, which will be too overwhelming.

  5. This is not the best way, but it is efficient because it can destroy their weapons or other things in the cave. I agree with Jackie that this adds stress onto the U.S. War should not be just about attack and defense, it should be about the people and the economy. The U.S. should've taken a different approach.

  6. I think that being the aggressor with terrorist is never really a good idea. Trump is playing with fire, and we will see how it turns out

  7. I think that terrorist groups have been able to grow and grain strength in the past because of the US failing to fight back in a more aggressive manner

  8. I think that damaging their underground cave system is a good way to fight ISIS. It will help destroy the weapons ISIS has in the cave. I agree with Speier that the US is doing too much which could be overwhelming to the US.

  9. Destroying the underground cave system is a great attack plan for it will attack the basis of operations. However, resorting to explosives may result in Isis fighting back with explosives as well. It would be better to use other methods rather than put our own country in harms way to deadly explosives

  10. I think the damaging their underground cave system is a good way to fight ISIS. However, I also agree with Speier that there will be heavy contributions on the US if ISIS were to hit us back with their own bombs (terrorist attack).

  11. I personally agree with Speier, because we already spend too much of our tax dollars on our military as it is (more than half of it), and really, this bomb doesn't help matters. While I guess damaging ISIS' underground cave system is an effective way to fight them, who says we need to fight them in the first place? I really don't respect Trump's militaristic and nationalistic views.

  13. I think that ruining their underground cave systems is a good start being that they won't be able to hide anymore. I agree with Jackie Speier, simply because 3 wars at the same time in the same area of the world is a very risky move. I personally believe that dropping the MOAB on 34 Islamic State Militants was more a show of strength against countries like North Korea, and also Yemen and Syria. I think it is just a little bit of Trump's ego getting to him but also the US flexing their fire power.

  14. I do think this is the most efficient way to fight against ISIS, however if Trump continues to carry out strikes like this, it may cause a chain reaction to other catastrophic events.

  15. I think this is a good way to combat ISIS. If we destroy their important weapons in their underground caves, we could be lessening the chances of more attacks. But, on the other hand, it could fuel the fire and cause more outrage from ISIS than before.

  16. I believe that bombs are extremely expensive and so you have to really think about what is worth more, billions of dollars or lives. Personally I think the bombs are worth the cost because it saved the lives of many american soldiers and possibly even more because it stoped 94 ISIS members.

  17. We cannot repeat the same mistakes we made in the Vietnam War when we are fighting ISIS. Remember that during the Vietnam War, the Vietcong successfully avoided U.S. air strikes, defeating the U.S. by using an underground system and guerrilla warfare. The new approach against ISIS, which is targeting their underground workings, will prevent history from repeating itself.

  18. I do agree with Speier in the fact that this could lead to more wars. By doing this the risk for ISIS to attack the US is much higher so President Trump needs to be careful and act responsibly.

  19. This was definitely an effective way to attack ISIS, but I do not think it was the best idea.

  20. These bombs are worth too much so they really need to think a lot before deciding to drop them as an attack.

  21. I think that this is a good idea, and the best way to get to them would be to bomb their caves, as they are not near civilization

  22. I also think that i is an effective way to get a one up on isis. But also there are alot of negatives about bombs

  23. I dont think America should have dropped the bomb as they are getting too involved in this. In order to defeat ISIS we must get more people to be against them.

  24. I think that US was smart in doing something, but by just destroying one base will not do much. It is known that ISIS has multiple bases so by just destroying one, won't do much good and the US should rethink their approach if they want to take them out without starting World War III.

  25. I don't think America should involved with ISIS and Syria more than they already are.

  26. Yes, attacking the underground tunnle system is the best target to shut down ISIS activity. I also think a non nucluear bomb was the best option to use, because nuclear force could spiral into a possible world war

  27. This can either way. This can just begin the start of a war or intimidate the competition. We havent heard anything since till now. So are we waiting or is it over?

  28. I believe that destroying their underground cave was a good idea, but we need to be more cautious when fighting with terrorists.

  29. Destroying the underground cave was a good approach to getting rid of ISIS but bombing other countries is not the best idea. This cause damages to the country and hurt many innocent people.
