Pepsi Pulls Controversial Kendall Jenner Ad After Outcry

Pepsi's Controversial Ad

On April 4th an ad that Pepsi had made started a whole controversial issue between people around the world. The ad was meant to make Pepsi bigger and to make people see the "nice" and "peaceful" things Pepsi could do, but that was not the case. Many people after watching the ad got so upset and angry at the fact that Pepsi tried to use all of the issues that are now going on and all of the issues/movements that happened. In the video you are able to see that the main actor is Kendall Jenner age 21. Kendall is seen doing a photo shoot during a movement in the Ad, that she randomly walks out of. She leaves her photo shoot to join the rest of the crowd in the movement, she reaches out to grab a Pepsi and hands it down to an officer which is seen as "creating" peace between all. The end of the ad was what caused the whole controversial issue. People thought that Pepsi was just making a joke about everything by just ending it with a simple Pepsi. Many people like MLK's youngest daughter started tweeting about this issue. She posted an image of her father in a mid-peaceful protest that showed him being pushed back by the police line and with that she tweeted: "If only Daddy would have known about the power of #Pepsi" A lot of scathing criticism started upon this and Pepsi started apologizing back to those they thought needed and apology but did not fully apologize to those who deserved one.

- What would you have do if you were told to be a part of this controversial ad?

- What are you feelings towards this Ad that pepsi made?

-Should Pepsi be punished in some sort of way for mocking these movements?

  1. I would probably have said no to being in the ad because there is always a chance people will look at it differently than what it's suppose to be. I think that pepsi truly was trying to make peace, it just wasn't seen in that way because police are extremely violent towards minorities.

  2. If i was asked to be part of this ad I wouldn't have thought about it in a negative way. i think people now in days take too many things to heart. although i understand how people could've taken it the wrong way, i didn't think that was Pepsi's intention, to me it was just a poorly executed commercial, but i didn't think it was trying to mock these movements.

  3. I would've said no to being a part of the advertisement because I understand and agree with the people who got upset over it, especially MLK's daughter. But I don't think Pepsi deserves to be punished somehow over it. They made the advertisement with good intentions in mind and didn't mean to upset people on purpose.

  4. I agree with Daniela that people take too many things to heart, there are some things that may have thrown people off but I don't think pepsi did it with the purpose to stir this all up.

  5. This ad was clearly a bad idea from its inception, since it is clearly dismissive of all the struggle, violence, and abuse people have experienced during protests. Assuming that giving protesters and policemen a product will make everything better is naive and insulting to their efforts. My question is: why didn't someone on the marketing team at Pepsi speak up about an idea that was blatantly offensive before it was even produced?

  6. I wouldn't want to be a part of this ad because it's not really impacting and it did a really bad job of what Pepsi was trying to accomplish with the ad. It was just a bad situation and blown up out of proportion.

  7. I also agree that this wasn't the smartest move on pepsi's part. With everything going on in our world today, we shouldn't be joking about certain situations. I don't think Pepsi had bad intentions with the ad, but it was definitely taken the wrong way.

  8. I don't think Pepsi thought too much about how this ad could be damaging to some people but that also means they might've done it unintentionally and not have been aware of this.

  9. I feel like they shouldn't have used such a huge controversial problem to advertise a soda.

  10. If I was told to be a part of this controversial ad, I wouldn't agree to do this because this will not only hurt my reputation but it would help to hurt other as well. I think that Pepsi did a poor job of what they wanted to advertise and they made it into a bigger deal than it had to be.

  11. For how famous Kendall Jenner is she shouldn't have done the commercial knowing it could hurt her reputation and image.

  13. I agree that this ad was too much due to the fact that there is such much happening in the world right now. I think Pepsi should have thought this through better and really thought about how this could have started so much

  14. I think Pepsi wasn't planning to hurt feelings in their Ad but too bad the damage is done .I agree it was a very poor job but at least they can apologize to save their business and customers .

  15. I believe that the people involved should have evaluated the situation and thought about the consequences the ad could have. The idea for this was not well thought out, and mocks the serious issue our nation faces regarding police brutality.

  16. I think that Pepsi didn't mean to cause all this drama and chaos and that it was a misunderstanding and there is no reason to punish pepsi because they didn't know better.
