President Obama program the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) has helped nearly 750,000 young people who are referred to as DREAMers. This program has helped this DREAMers to obtain a valid driver's license, enroll in college and legally secure jobs. Since Trump's election many people who are undocumented immigrants have been living in fear, of his words and threats towards undocumented immigrants. One of Trump’s focus are “ those who are in this country illegally and have a record, a criminal record or pose a threat to the American people.” Getting rid of the DACA would put this people in harm of being deported. There is one option that could still turnover the DACA but protect the DREAMers from being deported called the BRIDGE Act. Those who would be protected must meet criteria that was established under DACA. They must have arrived in the U.S. before their 16th birthday and have lived in the country continuously since June 15,2007.
Do you think it is far for Trump to get rid of the DACA?
How would you feel if you were an undocumented immigrant?
Do you think the BRIDGE Act will protect the undocumented immigrants from being deported?
I do believe that Trump getting rid of this program is a bit extreme although this may just be the beginning of his much larger plan. If I was an undocumented immigrant, I would feel pushed off my life in the US. I think that the BRIDGE act will do what it is intended, not protect all immigrants, but protect the ones that the DACA has chose.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Trump getting rid of this program is extreme. This program will/would help so many people. If I were an undocumented immigrant I would feel scared, frightened because I would have to leave the life I knew. I would feel as if I'd be pulled from an amazing opportunity and a good life.
ReplyDeleteThe immigrants that have been living in the United States and getting an education should not be removed en masse from the education system.
ReplyDeleteI think if Trump is going to throw out the DACA program they should keep the BRIDGE act as it is isn't for those who were brought into this country against their will as minors.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm not an immigrant myself, I believe in the power of immigrants, especially in the United States. They have different, new, some might say innovative, ideas and thoughts, which benefit society. Trump is ignoring the good things that immigrants can offer. Furthermore, our country has the American Dream: that is, poor, lower-class people can rise up from their status and achieve financial and socio-political success. With this newfound, higher status, immigrants have the ability to express their innovative ideas. Our new president is ignoring this powerful truth. To sum it up, I quote "Hamilton the Musical": "Immigrants - we get the job done."
ReplyDeleteI believe that by taking away the DACA act, many people would be in potential danger of being deported especially since the proposed solution of the BRIDGE act isn't certain yet. This leaves many people or DREAMers living in fear that they could have their entire life here in the US could be taken away. I see no reason for the DACA act being eliminated if all of the DREAMers are obviously qualified to be part of the US society and help contribute overall.
ReplyDeleteConsidering America is a country that claims to support the idea of being a melting pot, I do believe that Trump is taking things to far by considering getting rid of DACA.
ReplyDeleteI believe in karma, which means what goes around comes around. Therefore, it is perfectly natural that Trump is putting these parasitic immigrants back to where they belong. They have stayed in the US for far too long, stealing jobs from documented immigrants and taking free aid from our virtuous government for granted.
ReplyDeletei would feel like an outlaw if i was an undocumented immigrant straight living life trying to come up like scareface. I dont think its fair that he's getting rid of the DACA but it dont even matter though he the president.
ReplyDeleteI beleive taking away this program is horrible and to extreme for Trump. If i were an undocumented immigrant id be terrified to live in this country, i wouldn't be able to live the life i wanted to.
ReplyDeleteMany people have commented that taking down the DACA was is extreme and I agree, but like many others states there should be bigger plans in the future to help our country as a whole. If there isn't any then we made a very bad choice, but who will know until the future. I wish the best for the people who are undocumented immigrants and who are fearing for the worst because if I was in their shoes I would be slowly losing hope at this point.
ReplyDeleteTaking away the program would take away many opportunities for undocumented immigrants. If I were an undocumented immigrant, I would be so scared to live in the US right now. I would be very paranoid to step out in public if I was an undocumented immigrant.
ReplyDeleteThey have stayed in the US for far too long, stealing jobs from documented immigrants and taking free aid from our virtuous government for granted. Furthermore, our country has the American Dream: that is, poor, lower-class people can rise up from their status and achieve financial and socio-political success.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Katie, if we are land of the free then why are we kicking the people out who came here to be free. I agree that we should do something about criminals and other negative people but we should not turn away those who came to be free.
ReplyDeleteWell if I was an illegal immigrant I would have a brain. With that brain I would come to the conclusion that I am ILLEGAL. This is the case with many countries. If you are illegal you cannot be there. It's literally as simple as that. Not sure what is hard to understand about that, but clearly common sense is needed.
ReplyDeleteTrump is simply being dumb trying to ruin something that Obama worked so hard on. He is a racist. If i were undocumented
ReplyDeleteI would do something about this, start like an organization or something. I wouldn't just live in fear because no one should be living in fear when they are in a FREE country
Though many immigrants in the US are indeed undocumented, it isn't fair to completely remove them from the lives they have built for themselves in the US.
ReplyDeleteI do not think Trump should take DACA away, and I hope that the BRIDGE Act protects all illegal immigrants from being deported.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that Trump will lean towards just deporting those who have committed high crimes, and work towards securing the border and changing the immigration system without disrupting the lives of people who are already living here and contributing to society. But seeing the executive order he signed that gives immigration officers a lot of power to deport just about anyone, I'm starting to feel like those hopes are just delusions.
ReplyDeleteIf they are living in America and being good citizens I think to make them legals is way better than deporting them because for sure they can stay good citizens and be loyal.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that Trump should get rid of the DACA because one Obama worked extremely hard to protect immigrants and secondly because I believe that people who immigrated to the U.S deserve a chance to better their lives, they should be granted a chance.
ReplyDeleteIf Trumps actions are out of spite, to destroy what Obama worked to build for the sake of it, and because the actions coincide with his prejudices, I cannot respect them. Because I believe they are, I cannot respect any outcome, good or bad.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump should not deport the people who are just trying to rebuild their life and are actually benefiting the US, and will only take action against those who have committed serious crimes.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's fair for trump to get rid of daca. I believe everyone should have the chance to prosper in life. I believe only thoes who are criminals should be deported but not the once who are hardworking people.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe Trump should get rid of DACA. Many individuals rely on DACA and for Trump to take it away, it would negatively affect many people who only want to have the same education as others
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's fair for trump to get rid of DACA because that's literally one of the only ways undocumented people are making a living or getting around. If i was an undocumented immigrant, I'd probably be really scared. I'd wanna do everything I can to make trump stop.
ReplyDeleteIf I was an undocumented immigrant, I would be afraid for my future and what's to come. It's not fair for him to disrupt the lives of the individuals who have contributed to society and to have them be labeled as criminals when we should only be focusing on the ones that actually have committed crimes.
ReplyDeleteIt's messed up that Trump is taking away something that Obama has worked hard and it is only hurting undocumented immigrants and just overexaggerating and calling them criminals.
ReplyDeleteIf i were a undocumented immigrant i would fear what would happen, he shouldn't be allowed to just deport people because he says so, he should take action towards the people who have actually committed crimes where it dangers the lives of americans.
ReplyDeleteI do not think it is fair but it does not matter what we think. He's going to do it anyways because he does not care about the people. If I were undocumented then I would be so scared.I do not believe it will protect them because how are they supposed to show that they were here since before 2007 and they were here before their 16th birthday.
ReplyDeleteI think it's wrong for Trump to remove some of the immigrants who've come to the US to build their lives.
ReplyDeleteIf he does take away DACA I hope that the Bridge act protects the illegal immigrants as well as the DACA.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Trump should take away the DACA. It will negatively affect many people. I also believe that the people he works with should try to protect it if he does try to take it away.
ReplyDeleteI don't think its right for Trump to be taking DACA away and for putting illegal immigrants in a group and saying all of these made up things about them.
ReplyDeleteIf the DREAM act really will be repealed then the must at least keep the Bridge act. Either way, the DACA should not be taken to begin with. I do not understand what his logic is but, personally, I disagree.
ReplyDeleteTrump has put many in the position in hiding. It struck my that as his presidency continues more are having to become scared. & its for the right reasons why people are continue to protest.
