The amount of discarded electronic gadgets and electrical appliances has reached severe levels in East Asia. The amount of waste poses a growing threat to health and environment. China is one of the biggest culprits with its electronic waste more than doubling. However, nearly every country had a massive increase between the years of 2010 to 2015, including the growing mountain of discarded phones, computers, TV, air conditioners and other items. Only South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan have established recycling systems based on laws that were introduced in the 1990's. A study shows that the open burning and unsafe recycling is associated with a slew of health problems for workers and communities near recycling operations. These problems can include infertility, childhood development problems, impaired lung function, liver and kidney damage, inheritable genetic damage and mental health problems.
1. What can be done about the raising levels of trash?
2. Do you think we should follow the examples of South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan and implement recycling laws?
3. Should we continue to be making more electronic gadgets if it costs us our health and rise of trash in our community?
The only option to fix this problem is by recycling more by following South Korea, Taiwan and Japan with their kind of laws. We should only continue to produce more gadgets if we figure out a smarter and healthier way to get rid of our electronics.
ReplyDeleteI believe the U.S. should implement some kind of recycling laws. However, we should check if the old laws that are being used by South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan are up-to-date, as they might not apply to more modern technology.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we should also check if the laws are up to date and we can modify them and implement laws for the United States to fit our needs and desires.
DeleteThe issue of raising levels of trash can be mitigated through encouraging recycling drives for electronic waste and perhaps make a law that requires most electronic parts to be reused and recycled. We should definitely follow the examples of South Korea, Taiwan and Japan because their recycling laws provide a benefit that is worth working towards. We can be making more electronic gadgets only if we make sure to protect our workers and make sure that our E waste is being disposed of properly so that we dont end up needing to burn them.
ReplyDeleteWhy is that only the anime countries all have this electronic waste? The answer is simple, different priories of the East and Western worlds. Well you see since Asia is basically China we need to do more fancy UN talks where people wear suits and amke hand gestures and then the next day CNN reports on how the world is going to be a better place but then the next day I wake up in China and I can't see my hands because I'm either blind from the neurotoxins from the smog in the air or there is smog in the air. The easy solution would be to load all this trash on Elon Musk's Space X program and just launch all this trash into the Sun thereby reducing it to shreds per se.
ReplyDeleteI think that these things should be made out of more recyclable materials so there is not as much waste. I think we should be following the examples of South Korea, Taiwan and Japan because I has benefited them in their countries and I think it could benefit us in ours. I do not think there is a way to get around producing electronics because they help us so much is our daily lives. However, I think we can come up a way to alter how they are made so there are not as many health effects.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think we should recycle as much as we can. I dont think we should continue making more electronic gadgets if it costs us our health but in this day in age, we're not gonna go back, its only going to grow more, and faster
ReplyDeleteI feel like we should focus on recycling in regard to the rising levels of trash. Following the standards of other countries should motivate us to do the same and gadgets should only be produces if the method of production is efficient as well.
ReplyDeleteI think countries should follow in the footsteps of Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea. The laws they introduced to manage recycling electronic items is helping people's health and the environment. Seeing how dangerous conditions can be when these are not considered, I think countries like the US and China should make laws to recycle electronic waste.
ReplyDeleteChina needs to begin recycling their electronic waste, and as long as China continues to recycle they can go on making more electronics.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nichole that countries should follow in line with Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea. Due to certain laws introduced it has cut down on the amount of waist. Major countries such as the US and China should definitely recycle their electronic waist because it is just unnecessary waist that is left there.
ReplyDeleteModern technology is becoming an necessity for most people in their daily lives so I feel that decreasing the production wouldn't benefit most. What people can do to control the issue of harm done by the waste is recycling their devices in a safe manner.
ReplyDeleteI think that the government should do a better job at enforcing recycling in America. It seems like it is working for other countries so maybe we should do what they are doing. Maybe not less technology but probably figure out a way to change the material so it is bio friendly.
ReplyDeleteTo change the levels of trash I think that recycling should be more enforced and that will lower trash levels because its not all trash some things can be reused
ReplyDeleteI think that we should implement some sort of recycling laws for the electronic waste. I think that we should check the laws that South Korea, Japan and Taiwan are using now and see if it is able to apply to us and modify it as needed but I think that it is not likely for everyone to stop using technology and stop producing it. Maybe find a better way to make it environmentally friendly but stopping production would not help
ReplyDeleteI think that recycling is a major cause of all of this trash. Also, there should be more people offering to help clean up these areas in an effort to decrease the amount of trash. If enough people are willing to help their environment and put in the time, it can ultimately lead to a cleaner environment.
ReplyDeleteSeeing how dangerous these conditions are for people I think that they should check out and follow the laws that South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan use. If not then they should find a better way to recycle their devices in a safer way that wont harm people and communities.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be a good idea to follow rules like South Korea to help the environment.
ReplyDeleteI think there should be stricter laws to enforce recycling like Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. This would help reduce the amount of electronic waste, but focusing on environmentally friendly production and materials would help ease this issue. Electronic gadgets are high in demand and commonly used for everyday tasks, so reducing the amount seems unlikely. If healthier, safer means of producing/disposing of these devices are present, then it would reduce the possible health and environment risks even more.
ReplyDeleteI think laws have to be made to make companies recycle the electronic gadgets. If there aren't any laws, companies will find the cheapest ways to dispose of the electronic gadgets. Electronic gadgets should continue to be produced as long as the old electronics are being recycled properly.
ReplyDeleteJust like Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, the US should encourage/enforce. We should limit production in gadgets
ReplyDeleteI believe we should follow the examples of South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan and implement recycling laws. We should also raise awareness about this issue and educate people about the seriousness of it.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that we should begin to follow in the footsteps of South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. We should continue make more electronic gadgets as long as it's ensured that we have laws or a better system for discarding our electronics.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that stopping the production of new electronic gadgets is an option for us because of the growing demand and the fact that everyone one wants the latest gadgets. Therefore, I think that we should follow in the footsteps of South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan and have a better way to dispose of electronic gadgets.
ReplyDeleteI think the US should implement laws just as South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan have done. If we find a way to minimize the damage that we are causing to our planet, it can only benefit us.
ReplyDeleteI believe we should begin to look at the laws in South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan because their methods and laws regarding recycling and waist have really aided their countries in keeping clean. It will reduce the waist in the US, and benefit the country and the world.
ReplyDeleteI feel like we should focus on recycling in regard to the rising levels of trash. Following the standards of other countries should motivate us to do the same and gadgets should only be produces if the method of production is efficient as well.
