Tuesday Morning, January 17, 2017 General Motors announced a 1 billion dollar investment in its factories that will create or add 1,500 jobs. The investment is a normal process as they are simply just equipping factories to build newer and better models of automobiles and this has been planned to happen for months now. This idea had been brought up because of their axle production that was previously done in Mexico, but had been moved to Michigan and GM had said that within the next several years, the jobs created would reach up to 7,000 jobs available. The reason why GM had moved their axle production to Michigan is because President Trump had been attacking all automaker companies for making products in Mexico and having them shipped into the U.S.
1) Do you think if Donald Trump had never attacked them, GM would have thought of this idea?
2) With an increase in jobs, would the pay of other jobs with in the company be affected?

Does GM have to build new factories to accommodate theses jobs and production?
ReplyDeleteBased off this article, no they do not build new factories they just move production into other factories with in the U.S. thus creating more jobs in those factories
DeleteI think it would have taken GM a while to think of the idea if Donald Trump didn't steal it.Yes i think having more jobs would create less pay for people who already have jobs.
ReplyDeleteI believe with an increase in jobs of one company can surely affect the pay of other workers for the company could possibly not have enough money to provide for all the workers. In addition, the company could also have issues with not receiving enough money from the work that goes on in the company.
ReplyDeleteI definitely believe that big companies are becoming afraid to build factories and plants in other countries with Trump watching them. GM probably thought of this as they decided to invest in more jobs in America. I hope that this investment will insure that no current employee's wages are decreasing with the new jobs being added.
ReplyDeleteI think that an increase in jobs may be able to effect the pay of other workers. The more employees, the more money they have to pay, which could decrease the amount of money each person receives.
ReplyDeleteI think that people are trying to stop outsourcing in preparation of Trump. Whether Trump does what he says and runs with the change he has already seemingly created is up to him. But I think that the change he created is on the right path.
ReplyDeleteThe investment is definitely a good thing for Michigan residents, as it opens up more jobs for them to improve their state economy. It does come with a risk for the company though. A billion dollar investment is a lot, and if it fails and ends up making them lose money, it would be very bad for the company.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Caroline, I think these big companies are afraid of Trump and his ideas. I think its great that there will be more jobs for people in the US but its crazy to think that Trump is already making a huge impact.
ReplyDeleteI think that the pay of the workers might decrease, due to the fact that they now have more employees.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this news information may be some kind of propaganda to trick the people into thinking how Trump is already making America great again. I have to say that I will be in doubt until the "potential 7,000 jobs" become actual 7,000 jobs. Again, I must mention that the company only announced what they're going to do; they may never do it.
ReplyDeleteOpening up more jobs are good for the people in general, however, big companies will lose money due to more employees getting payed as well as the workers themselves.
ReplyDeleteincrease of more jobs will be a great thing for a lot of people but more jobs means less pay, and more competition for a higher pay.
ReplyDeleteAs stated above, this of course will be a benefit to the Michigan economy if it does succeed and to the workers. As we've seen with GM before they had to be bailed out in 2009 by the government because of failed investments just like this. I don't know if they moved jobs to the US from Mexico solely to please Donald Trump, but I wouldn't discredit it either.
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that they will have more jobs, but they might lose more money because they will have to pay for the employees.
ReplyDeleteI think that with the increasing number of jobs, other companies would be affected with the pay. They will be losing money with having more workers hired.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that GM would have made the move back to America if Trump had not harassed them. I also believe that the salary of these workers will not be affected, but I do believe that GM may hire less people because the cost of workers in America is so much more expensive than workers in Mexico.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is good that new jobs will be made and and more people can become employed. This will change wages within GM, but it is nothing too big that can't be easily solved.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump has somewhat influenced companies decisions but at the end of the day someone would have brought it up. Also I would bet that pay across the company will be affected when 1500 new employees come onto the payroll.
ReplyDeleteI feel that Trumps influence has changed where jobs would be, but It might not be the best for the economy in large, we don't know yet
ReplyDeleteI think that Trumps comment's definitely influenced theses changes, I think they moved their factories to Michigan so that they could start on a good note with Trump and his first term.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump did maybe not so much attack them but did something to them. I think they pay for other companies may change because there are going to be more jobs for other people.
ReplyDeleteTrump's influnce of business has been a negitive effect on the economy because of countless times of outsourcing
ReplyDeleteTrump has a huge effect on the world's economy because he a one of the richest business men. He will deal with business with other countries on a high level with so much experience in the field. I feel the Trump will bring a lot of money to America.

Deleteyes i do think that creating more jobs will affect the pay of those who already have jobs but at the same time I do think that more jobs are needed
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nicoh because trump has a big effect because he is a big business man. If he can get money to America it would be great.
ReplyDeleteThere will be a decrease in money because of the number of job openings they are offering. They will have to pay all of employees for those positions.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kylie in that the amount of money distribute will decrease. More jobs means more distribution of money among the workers.
ReplyDeletei think if Donald Trump didnt call out companies that outsourced their production GM would not have moved out of mexico. I dont expect GM to decrease their worker wages as there would be outcry.
ReplyDeleteI think with with the pressure Trump was putting on the companies, it influenced GM to come up with this idea. I think that the pay might be affected, but the 1,500 jobs added should not affect the current jobs with the companies unless the company does bad and lets people go.
ReplyDeleteWhile GM may want to reduce the pay of other workers, ultimately they will need to spend much more money creating new jobs, and I think many people having low paying jobs is better than a few people having high paying jobs, and I do think that because of his desire to gain popularity Trump will want to create more jobs without considering that others may lose pay.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Trump has a lot of influence economically with his recent election. Because of this it is very likely that GM reacted to Trump's actions with this move.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that the company's decision to move to the U.S. was solely based on what Trump had said, but it might have had an influence. Additionally, I think that although it is good for the Michigan economy to add all of those jobs, I think it will have a small affect on the wages of the employees now that they have more workers to be paid.
ReplyDeleteI don't think General Motors would have thought of this idea if Donald Trump had never attacked them. They need the push to create more jobs. I think that with an increase in jobs, people's pay will be affected.
ReplyDeleteI must mention that the company only announced what they're going to do; they may never do it. I feel that Trump will bring a lot of money to America.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe it was solely based on Trump, however, he most likely had an influence on their decision. I think the amount of jobs will help. It is important to create more jobs, but it is also crucial that they make sure people's pay is significant enough to help them live.
ReplyDeleteDue to the fact of the increase in the amount of workers, this would definetly decrease the amount of pay for other workers. If Trump did not attack automaker companies then this would not have been an issue. GM creating more job opportunity within the company decreases the pay because an abundant amount of workers cannot receive a high amount of pay in one company
ReplyDeleteI think Trump had a hand in influencing GM to make this decision but it was not entirely based on him.
ReplyDeleteanything that helps creating jobs is a great thing to happen weather its because of Trump or no as long as the unemployment rates stays low and boosts our economy so people will not lose their jobs.

ReplyDeleteI definitely think that the pay will decrease if there is an increase in jobs. I don't think that Trumps comments had anything to do with this decision however.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that they would move as many jobs to America because it is cheaper to make car parts in Mexico and in reality they are a business and are in it to make money.
ReplyDeleteI honestly think GM would have taken a while to do such a thing to make that many jobs because that many people don't really effect them at the position they are at now.The pay may weigh differently now since they are going to spend 1 billion dollors just to make 1.5k jobs. Or at least that's what their excuse is going to be anyways.
ReplyDeleteI think that people are trying to stop outsourcing in preparation of Trump. Whether Trump does what he says and runs with the change he has already seemingly created is up to him. But I think that the change he created is on the right path
ReplyDeleteMore jobs is a good idea but at the same time pay would be decreasing as well for employers which wouldnt be good
