Welcome at the White House: Some labor unions over others

Welcome at the White House: Some labor unions over others

President Trump has supported construction, auto, steel, and coal workers unions, but not other labor unions. He's trying to be a blue collar President, but does not support raising minimum wage to $15. Trump has pushed for $1 trillion of infrastructure spending, rejected the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal created by Obama, and supported the Keystone XL pipeline, which President Obama blocked. Trump is not an ally of the two largest teachers unions in the nation. Only 10.7% of workers today are members of a labor union.

1. Why do you thing Trump supports some trade unions, but not others?

2. The article suggest that Trump may not actually care about workers and instead is more partial to company managers. How do you think he feels about workers rights?

3. Do you like Trump's plan to spend on infrastructure, back off the TPP, and negotiate better terms for the US on NAFTA? Will these policies help the U.S. economy in the years to come?

  1. I believe like Trump, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If he feels that one trade union is more beneficial than another, he is allowed to do so, especially since he is the PRESIDENT.

  2. I think he cares more about the business side of things which is why he seems to be more partial to certain business labor unions. I feel that it good to spend on infrastructure but the TTP is still important to focus on to create good relations and economic prosperity.

  3. I agree that Trump is also focusing more on the business aspect of everything. Trump's morals and actions are more than controversial, but one thing that can not be argued is that he is a very intelligent businessman if anything.

  4. I think that Trump only supports certain labor unions because they are the only workers that you need to maintenance a country's infrastructure. Construction, Auto, Steel, and Coal will without a doubt have an impact on this country. I do not believe that Trump cares about the workers as much as he makes it seem, I do believe that he is more in it for the company name and its managers.

  5. I believe that he only supports some trade unions because not all of them are necessities. I don't think that Trump truly supports that workers as much as he shows. I do not like his plans to revise NAFTA.

  6. Trump seems to be prioritizing based on what is important to the people who voted for him. It seems like instead of trying to capture the people who did not vote for him, he is appealing to the people working in the middle of the country in an effort to keep their support.

  10. I think Trump is doing this because he has something else in his mind planned, most likely for business reasons.
