Self-Driving Cars Will Change the Automotive Landscape

LINK

From Google to Tesla, everyone seems to be wanting their hands on the futuristic technology, technology that has had the tech world in a frenzy. All are eager to change the automobile industry, hoping to revolutionize the way cars are used. In the article, it states that there will definitely be competition between the traditional car industry and the new modern industry. Also, it would mean a decrease in body paint and repair stores as the cars are predicted to combat drunk driving and any possible collisions. I expect for the demand of these cars to be unsurprisingly high. With the attractive features of reduction in traffic violations and no hands, it will be sure to rock the automobile world.

Questions:
With the promise of safety, would you purchase a car like this?
What do you think are some cons of a car that requires no human interaction?
Would you trust machines to be in control of your life?

  1. No i would never buy a self driving car ,not sure how safe that would be even though they promised . The change will not be easy and i don't think a lot of people will get used to it.

  2. I honestly would not buy a driving cars because they are only programmed to an extent other variables like other people driving just would make it even more dangerous to be in a vehicle.

  3. I believe it is interesting to have a self driving car especially since many people get into accidents when they are sleepy. Thus, using a self driving car could potentially prevent many of these accidents from happening. personally I would not buy one of these cars because of the cost and for harder thing like parking in a cramped spot it would be better to manually do it.

  4. i would totally buy this car because I'm already a dangerous driver so I'd rather be driven than drive myself. I would trust my life with these machines.

  5. I wouldn't want to buy a self driven car for the reason of, I would want to drive my own car and with a self driven car you can do that, but that would not be purpose of a self driven car. The cons of a self driven car is that its controlled by a robot and with that you aren't really sure whether it will do every single command that it should do. I would no trust every single moment of my life to be controlled by a machine but a few things wouldn't hurt for a machine to be in control of.

  6. I would buy a self driving car. Some problems would be that the car might malfunction and crash ,but I feel as long as there is a manual override and people don't just go to sleep, the car will be safe.

  7. I would buy this car since I don't really like driving anyways, this would make me feel better on the road. Even though there are cons, such as because it is self-driving you don't know if something could go wrong, but there are cons in every situation. I would trust this car

  8. I probably would not purchase a car like this because even though they "promise safety" I want my safety to be in my hands not a technological car's hands. Some cons of a car like this is that technology has glitches sometimes and a glitch in a car on the road could have major consequences.

  9. I would buy a self driving car, as long as there is, as previously stated, some sort of manual override so that if something does go wrong with the car, it can always be dealt with accordingly.

  10. If people don't want to drive themselves places, why don't they just take the bus? Expanding the public transportation systems would be beneficial because it reduces the number of cars needed on the road and makes for better traffic flow and fuel consumption.

  11. I would not buy the car because I can't 100% trust that I will be safe in that car and like Jacob said if there isn't an override of then how can I trust I will be safe if something were to happen

  12. If I was promised safety I think I'd consider buying a car like this. Some cons with cars that don't require human interaction are that the rest of the cars do require human interaction, so unexpected things can still happen and the car can not be prepared. I don't think I could ever fully trust a machine to "control my life."

  13. I would never trust machines like this for any self enhancing feature comes with a negative aspect. For a self driving car, this would mean trusting in something that can be hacked or even calculate an error. If there were a car coming from the side view would the car be able to detect it?

  14. I think that because this is new technology, people are more afraid to use it. Once this type of machinery becomes the norm, no one will even question it. One day in the distant future this may even be the only type of car on the market.

  15. I would possibly purchase this car with enough research. Without human interaction, there will be errors that can cost a life. I wouldn't trust this because there are always software malfunctions, and to have machines be in control is unreliable

  16. Personally i believe wouldn't buy a car like this because I'm to afraid of it, i don't really trust these cars yet. Would rather have myself drive a car then have no body or a(robot) drive. I wouldn't be comfortable for machines to control my life, I'm not used to it yet.

  17. I think a car like that would be cool but I would not buy it because it would not risk my life with with it because something could go wrong in the car.

  18. I think it is a cool car but its probably a lot of money and I dont think I would want to drive that type of car.

  19. No, because if i can't control where im going then I wouldn't be able to trust it. I'd be way to stressed to drive it.

  20. No I wouldn't like to purchase a car like this and I wouldn't let a machine like this control my life

  21. I would not buy a car like this because it doesn't seem that safe and i also wouldn't let a machine run my life

  22. It's a hard decision to make, but I would like to see how auto driving cars do on the road after some time before actually purchasing one and trying it on my own. I think I would use it, but I would want to be extra sure and careful.

  23. No, i wouldn't because i wouldn't trust a computer to drive my car. I only trust my self with driving. No i wouldn't trust a computer to operate my life.

  24. I would love to have a car like this if you have a long commute to your job you could take a nap while driving to work.

  25. All change is often looked on negatively at first, but these cars are different. Putting automated driving in control risks many complications. The beginning technology WILL result in the deaths of many as it already has, and once we become accustomed to self driving electric cars, once one thing goes wrong, all of the learned capabilities of humans to drive will already be gone. Self-responsibility will be a lost term in humanity as accidents and faults will be blamed on companies, and if cars malfunction, humans will be left with no skills to drive.

  26. I would never, and will never buy a car like this. Driving is an important skill. Everyone should have that skill.I personally believe that a lot of technology that will be produced in the future will be putting a ton of our skills at risk. At some point humans will have little to no skills. We will be so dependent on technology that can malfunction at any point in time.

  27. In fact the other day I was actually researching the benefits of buying a Tesla. I feel that its features form self driving to charging for fuel is just two of the features that make this car worth buying. Although I love driving and it is an important skill to learn like paul illustrated in his comment, I believe that some are incapable of learning how to drive so having this car can be very beneficial to them.

  28. self driving cars are what i like to call an "all or nothing" dream. it would be impossible to make them feasible unless EVERYONE used them. manual and automatic don't mix well. it would also cause the need for hundreds of new laws and regulations to be made to keep automatons in check and regulated.

  29. I think that these cars may be helpful in preventing drunk driving accidents and what not, but a self driving car doesn't always guarantee that the car would do everything you would wish. I don't think I would buy one just because of the unknown complications and because of how new it would be.

  30. I would not trust a computer machine to be driving for me even though it is proven to be safe. One never knows what may happen. Yes it may prevent many things such as big collisions due to drunk driving, but I feel like it would be such a risk to purchase a car like this.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I believe it can prevent drunk driving. However, self driving is never reliable because you never know whats going to happen. But I probably would buy one just to try it out.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I would not trust my life in the hands of a computer, simple as that. I believe that self driving cars are unnecessary and are a waste of money and research. People are fully capable of driving themselves and do not need self driving cars to get around.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Personally I wouldn't trust a self driving car, one simple mistake in the coding behind this madness could cause you to lose your life in seconds. People will become very lazy upon this as well.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Even with the promise of safety, I still wouldn't get a car that drives itself because nothing always goes as planned and the creation could always fail.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I more than likely would not purchase a car like this even with the promise of safety because I would feel quite scared letting the car just drive on its own, instead of driving myself.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would probably like to purchase a car like this but although it would e weird at first I think it is something that I can get used to.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am not sure if I would buy this car. I do not think I would 100% trust the car but I think it would be a cool idea to haave one of these. I may drive it but I wouldn't go to sleep or anything like that, I would be fully aware

  38. I think right now the question of safety with self-driving cars is legitimate, but hopefully in the future, cars that can analyze situations and make decisions in the same way- even communicate with each other- could make transportation much safer, because the cars will be less likely to make human mistakes.

  39. I wouldn't trust these cars just yet because I feel that there has not been enough testing done to prove that they will be safe to use on the roads. Machines can make mistakes just like humans.
