In his first speech to congress, Donald Trump took on many issues and his campaign promises. One of the issue that he took on was immigration. In his speech he again recapped his plan of building a wall and gain efforts to deport undocumented immigrants. He thinks that these efforts will lower unemployment and crime rates, raise wages and save billions of dollars in public spending. But changes like this could create severe short run labor shortages in heavy sectors like technology, agriculture, construction and food processing. According to the U.S. census made before policy changes, in 20 years immigration will account for over two-thirds of the U.S. population growth. so basically slowing or stopping immigration will slow labor force growth and in turn economic output growth.
Do you agree or disagree that immigration will slow labor force growth?
What should Donald Trump do differently?
Is it necessary to change the policy?
I agree that Trump's views may not take into consideration long term effects. Building a wall may help manage illegal immigration, but it may not help job growth. He should reconsider his policies to allow illegal immigrants a chance to assimilate to life in America more.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Trumps's short time in office can hurt the country, but ultimately, his time of service will not be enough for him to do much damage. I agree that it will slow labor force growth because some people won't be working any longer.
ReplyDeleteI agree that immigration will slow labor force growth because there won't be as many people working for the company therefore slowing down the process of work and labor.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with many of those above, that the actions of Donald Trump will not according to the past and U.S. census help the country in any way in the long run
ReplyDeleteI agree that trump's actions and opinions do not consider long term effects because a wall will not ultimately end illegal immigration. If anything it will hurt the economy. I think Trump should reconsider and facilitate illegal immigrants becoming legal.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Trump is not taking the long term effects into account and I think that this definitely will slow down the labor force. I think that some sort of change should come but that change might as well be to work towards making illegal immigrants be on a pathway to citizenship instead of kicking them out
ReplyDeleteI agree that Trump is not really thinking about the long term effects of his actions and I think this will probably slow down the labor force.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Trump's current decision may not be the best for long term growth of our country.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Trump is not looking at the long term effects this has for the growth of our country.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Trump's immigration plan will not have a good outcome. He's not thinking any of his action through
ReplyDeleteTrumps immigration plan will very likely slow the labor force growth because there will be significantly less people available for certain jobs. Without as large of a workforce rapidly growing there is going to need to be significant changes in the economy to make up for the now lack of workers.
ReplyDeleteWe can lose up to about 6 million dollars if we got rid of most immigrants. I agree that trump's immigration plan will end very badly.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump wants to build the wall because he knows it will take a long time, and it will create more jobs for the US. At least he think it will.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Trump's plan will create labor shortages because the undocumented workers are doing the jobs that other people don't want to do.
ReplyDeleteYea to go along with the echo chamber called blogspot, I really think that his policies are inconsiderate of the American future. Like where in his grand scheme is he considering the economic growth for the future. This is a classic example of baby rage getting the best of humanity and appealing to a bunch of hur durs me American me vote kind of thing. Obviously these kids have yet to be Rick Rolled by that economic class by J. Felder, otherwise they would've predicted the supply demand curve shifting to the right making the prices go up and inflation is the root of communism folks. These kids went to Tulane University and paid 40k every year just to make decisions like this... "xD"
ReplyDeleteI agree that immigration will slow labor force growth because there will not be as many people to fill all the jobs, but I do not think that a change in policy will be necessary.
ReplyDeleteI also believe that Trump is unaware of the long term effects of this decision.
ReplyDeleteI agree with ryan and also dont think the plan will create labor shortages because undocumented workers are working in places where they will hire undocumented workers and they clearly need help there
ReplyDeleteimmigration will forsure slow down with the labor force growth because like what Thomas lee said immigrants are taking the jobs nobody else will take and its sad to see that but its true and without them we will have a very big problem
ReplyDeleteI agree with the idea that immigration will slow labor force growth because of the number of people. His choices can hurt the country in the long term, but now I do not think much damage can be done with the time he has.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nicole that his plan isn't as beneficial long term wise. A fraction of the U.S. immigrants and account for the labor force, and so it will slow down production growth. I think he should work towards legalizing immigrants in order to continue the productivity of the labor force since they do contribute to the US a lot
ReplyDeleteI agree that deportation of immigrants will slow down the business and make a negative difference in the world. The work force will be affected in a negative way as well. Donald Trump should look at the individual person and determine if that person is worth living in the United States.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Renee and Nicole that his plan not the right plan for the long term and he does need to reconsider his policy. But the more immigrants he keeps out of america will also slow job growth because there will not be people filling jobs. Hopefully unempolyment will decress. That might be the only real possitive from this.
ReplyDeleteHis policies may only continue to hurt our country. I agree with everyone when saying that immigration will slow labor growth. It will only hurt our economy as a country, rather than help it.
ReplyDeleteBecause immigrants are such a large part of our population, labor force growth will slow. Donald Trump could work on making higher education more accessible so that people will have an easier time obtaining jobs that will help them make a living.
ReplyDeleteLabor participation in the US overall is looking to decrease, and ironically, unemployment rates have been low. If the immigrant workers do not spend time to develop their skills, they may be in an economic and employability disadvantage, forcing them to leave the US without needing Donald Trump.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Trump's plan on immigration will slow the growth of the labor force because there will not be as many people to fill the jobs. Trump should change the policy because it will not benefit the country in the long run and will not stop all illegal immigration.
ReplyDeleteI think immigration is great for the economy and will increase labor force growth. I think Trump should stop enforcing ridiculous immigration regulations.
ReplyDeleteThe growth of the labor force will definitely slow down without immigrants, and much of our economy will be affected negatively because there won't be as much production of certain goods and services.
ReplyDeleteI think it's pretty clear that sitting all the way up there Trump doesn't realize how much this country runs on immigrants and undocumented workers. His crack down definitely won't be helping to grow the economy, is anything we'll experience severe shortages in the workforce.
ReplyDeleteTrumps's short time in office will hurt the country. trump has to change a lot of things, he should act differently towards this situation. trump should change the policy because it won't benefit our country.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that trump is thinking of the long term effects of the policies and things he is putting in place. I think building a wall may lower the immigration rate we currently have, but ultimately I don't think it will be able to solve all of the problems revolved around immigration completely.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe Donald Trump should have handled this situations any diiferenlty. I also believe that the building of the wall has created many job opportunities for it is a long process until completion
ReplyDeleteI don't think that immigration slows down the labor work force nor is Trump thinking of the long term effects of the choices he's making for our country.
ReplyDeleteI think deporting immigrants will slow down production because there won't be people working. I think Trump is not thinking is not thinking about the long term effects, he being irrational and could worsten our economy even more.
ReplyDeleteI believe that building the wall is pointless because either way immigrants will find a way to come back to the US. I believe that the money that will be used for the wall should be used for more useful things. I believe that since many people in the US are immigrants there could be a downward slope on economy meaning it may affect the economy really bad.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Trump is hurting the economy more than he is helping it because the immigrants are participating in helping the economy by working and if he gets rid of them, this will slow down economic growth and we will lose money. The wall is also a waste of money because it is a "pointless" investment as building it will cause an economic burden on the US

ReplyDeleteI agree that immigration will slow labor force growth because there won't be as many people working for the company therefore slowing down the process of work and labor
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nicole that he isn't looking at the long term effects of his policies which may have a greater impact on us in the future if he doesn't reconsider.
ReplyDeletei think this will all lead to slow production due to less labors available to do certain jobs ,its not a good idea to get rid of all hard working immigrants just because they are immigrants .Trump better come up with a better plan this time to save our economy.
ReplyDeleteThis will create slow production due to less workers, so to get rid of immigrants will do no good for our country. Trump must find another way to deport immigrants who NEED to leave.
ReplyDeleteI believe having foreign people taking the jobs of americans will cause a slower growth in the work force or no growth at all due to them not being full fledged americans. Also, even though they are not americans they will be over time and will grow the work force in some way, but slower.
ReplyDeleteI believe it will slow the rate of people coming into America but this is just illegal immigrants. Immigrants that still come in legally can still get jobs as well help the production rate. Having a legal immigrant work instead of a illegal one might help stabilize the economy.
